Responsible gambling at Winz

Start playing

Why this matters

Gambling works best when it stays what it is: a bit of entertainment, a few rounds after work, a weekend flutter. Winz runs slots, live tables and a sportsbook, and all of them are designed to be enjoyable in short bursts. The trouble starts when the line between fun and compulsion gets blurred – when a session stretches longer than you planned, or when a loss feels like something you need to chase. Responsible gambling is about recognising that line before you cross it.

When it stops being fun

A few behaviours are worth watching for, in yourself or in someone you know. None of them means disaster on its own, but together they form a pattern:

  • Spending more time or money than you intended, repeatedly
  • Chasing losses – doubling stakes to win back what you've lost
  • Gambling when you're stressed, angry or low, as a way to escape
  • Lying to friends or family about how much you play or spend
  • Borrowing money to gamble, or neglecting bills to keep playing
  • Feeling anxious or irritable when you try to cut back

If two or more of these feel familiar, it's time to take stock.

A short self-check

A few honest questions, answered privately:

  • Have you ever gambled longer than you planned to?
  • Do you gamble to forget about problems or to feel better?
  • Has anyone close to you expressed concern about your gambling?
  • Have you tried to cut back and found you couldn't?
  • After losing, do you feel you need to return soon to win it back?
  • Have you lied about the time or money you spend gambling?
  • Has gambling caused you financial difficulty or affected your relationships?

These aren't a diagnosis – they're prompts. If you answered yes to several, consider reaching out for support. There's no shame in asking.

Limits you can set with the operator

The platform itself offers four control tools, all accessible from your account settings:

ToolWhat it does
Deposit limitsCap how much you can deposit per day, week or month
Wager limitsRestrict the total amount you can bet in a session or time period
Session limitsSet a timer; the platform logs you out when it expires
Self-exclusionLock yourself out for a chosen period – you can't reverse it early

Setting a limit before you start playing is easier than imposing one mid-session. Treat these tools as guardrails, not suggestions.

Where to find help in the UK

Several organisations offer free, confidential support – no judgement, no cost, and you don't need to be in crisis to call:

GamCare runs the National Gambling Helpline: 0808 8020 133, available 24 hours a day, every day. You can also visit gamcare.org.uk for live chat and practical resources.

BeGambleAware (begambleaware.org) provides information, a self-assessment tool and links to local treatment services.

GamStop (gamstop.co.uk) is a free national self-exclusion scheme. Register once and you're blocked from all participating UK-licensed sites for a period you choose – six months, one year or five years.

Gordon Moody (gordonmoody.org.uk) offers residential treatment and online courses for those who need more intensive support.

Blocking software

Two tools can stop gambling sites loading on your devices, across all browsers and apps:

  • Gamban (gamban.com) – subscription-based, works on desktop and mobile
  • BetBlocker (betblocker.org) – free, open-source, multi-platform

Taking a break

Sometimes the best thing you can do is step away for a while. Self-exclusion through the operator or GamStop gives you a fixed period without access – no temptation, no second-guessing. If a full break feels like too much, start with a deposit limit or a weekly budget and hold to it for a month. See how it feels.

Talking to someone – a friend, a counsellor, a helpline adviser – often makes the decision easier. You don't need to have all the answers before you reach out.

Protecting minors

This site and the operator's platform are restricted to those aged 18 and over (18+). If you share a device with someone under 18, consider parental-control software such as Net Nanny or Qustodio to block access to gambling sites entirely.

Gambling should be entertainment, not a chore. If it ever stops feeling that way, the tools and organisations above are there to help you get back in control.
